Your report on gays and marriage rights (ETHICS, Nov. 20)
should spur many to ask, "Can't mainstream society make up its mind
about gay lives?" Traditional society has held stubbornly to its
portrayal of homosexuals as irresponsible, sexually obsessed
deviants, but it refuses to allow gay people the privileges that
would enable them to lead peaceful and productive lives.
